BUILDING COMMISSION — BUSHFIRE-PRONE AREAS
290. Hon KATE DOUST to
the Minister for Commerce:
I refer to the implementation of the National Construction
Code and Australian Standard 3959 for new building work in declared
bushfire-prone areas.
(1) Is the Building Commission ready for the commencement on
1 May 2015?
(2) When will the new forms be available for builders?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the
question.
(1) Yes; the
National Construction Code and AS 3959 are in operation in areas of Western
Australia declared bushfire prone. The Department of Planning has advised that
the commencement date for the new bushfire planning requirements will be 1 September
2015. The Building Commission is in the process of amending the Building
Regulations 2012 so that the commencement dates for planning and building will
align.
(2) No new
forms are necessary for builders. The current forms already operate in areas of
Western Australia that have been declared bushfire prone.
