TEACHING POSITIONS
1032. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the Leader of the House representing
the Minister for Education:
I refer to the answers to my
question without notice last month that revealed that 1 699 teachers hold
limited registration, with 952 of those being in the government sector.
(1) Does the
minister recall informing Parliament last year that as of 13 September 2023 the
number was 577?
(2) Will the
minister table the last briefing note prepared by the department about this
increase in the use of people who have not attained a teaching degree?
(3) If no to (2),
will the minister table a section 82 notice under the Financial Management Act
so that the Auditor General may inquire into this non-provision of information
to Parliament?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1) This question
appears to reference the response to Legislative Assembly question on notice
879. That included data on the number of teachers reported to hold limited
registration working in Department of Education schools only, by region, as of
13 September 2024. The total of the regional figures was 577. The honourable
member's confusion arises because that figure did not include teachers
holding limited registration under the Department of Education's
pre-service teachers casual seeker app.
(2) Not applicable. As provided in Legislative Council
question on notice 1956, as of 9 April 2024, 568 persons were identified
as pre-service teachers. By way of further information, it is incorrect to
assume that those holding limited registration have not attained a teaching
qualification or degree.
(3) Not applicable.
