Mr. Hyde questions the Minister regarding the Goldfields Earthquake Restoration Fund, specifically the discrepancy between the promised $5 million and the reported $4.07 million spent/committed. The Minister provides a breakdown of allocated funds, citing emergency grants, restoration fund spending, conservation improvement grants, and preferred works grants, while also noting delays due to insurance claim outcomes.

HERITAGE COUNCIL — GOLDFIELDS EARTHQUAKE RESTORATION FUND
I have a supplementary question. The minister’s government promised $5 million for the Goldfields earthquake restoration fund and his own annual report shows that only $4.07 million has been spent or committed. What has the minister done with the other $930 000? Mr G.M. CASTRILLI

Member for Perth, we have allocated, as the member knows from when he went there with the Premier, $5 million for the Goldfields earthquake fund. We have spent $61 529 on emergency grants so far. We have spent $505 329 on the earthquake restoration fund so far. The conservation improvement grants — Mr J.N. Hyde : Add them up! The SPEAKER : Member for Perth! Mr G.M. CASTRILLI : We have $1.261 million that we have allocated. We have allocated $25 000 to the preferred works grant. A number of owners, I think about 16, if I remember correctly, are still awaiting the outcome of their insurance claims to work out what the gaps are from those insurance claims.
