Prior to changes to the New South Wales legislation in the late 1990s, it was possible for a convicted criminal to lodge a claim for compensation with the Victims Compensation Tribunal for injuries sustained while incarcerated. What right to compensation are convicted criminals in Western Australian jails currently entitled, and for what offences against their person may convicted criminals claim compensation?
