(a) - (b) The reference to "Cranbrook" in my press release dated 23 July 2005 was a typographical error. The release should have referred to my visit to "Cranbourne" in Melbourne. I refer the member to my Statement to Parliament dated 24 August 2005 (Hansard pp 4502-3) in relation to my visit to Melbourne, Sydney and Auckland. The Economic Review of the Racing industry recently commissioned by Racing and Wagering Western Australia (RWWA) identified the under-utilisation of expensive racecourse facilities as a factor that is impacting on the future viability of the racing industry. The Government is keen for there to be a focus on commercial viability in the racing industry and has urged RWWA and individual racing clubs to explore co-location opportunities as a means to gain a greater return from industry assets. The visit to the Cranbourne racing facility was aimed at gaining a better understanding of the working of a venue that is shared by thoroughbred, harness and greyhound racing clubs.
