(1) What is Transperth’s policy on the use of cannabis by bus drivers while on duty? (2) Does Transperth conduct random drug tests on its drivers; and, if not, does it intend to change its policy when the Government’s Cannabis Control Bill becomes law? Hon GRAHAM GIFFARD

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice of this question. (1)-(2) Transperth does not employ bus drivers. Bus operations are performed under contract to Transperth by three bus companies, and the contracts require the bus companies to operate the services reliably and in accordance with relevant legislation and regulations. Each of the contracted bus companies has adopted a policy for drug and alcohol management within its work force. All the contracted bus companies conduct drug and alcohol screening tests during recruitment. One of the three companies has an ongoing random drug and alcohol testing regime. Transperth is not aware of any proposal by the contracted bus companies to change their policies.
