BUSSELTON - PORT GEOGRAPHE DEVELOPMENT
I refer to the Port Geographe development in Busselton, and in particular to the government-endorsed seagrass wrack and sand bypassing operation currently underway. Has the Department of Environment and Conservation conducted, as required by the Shire of Busselton, air quality monitoring associated with these works; if yes, what are the results; and, if no, when will the monitoring be conducted? Hon ADELE FARINA

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. I answer this question on behalf of the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for the Environment, and on behalf of the Minister for the Environment I provide the following answer - No. The Department of Environment and Conservation does not conduct air quality monitoring of the Port Geographe development. However, the department has provided air monitoring equipment to the Shire of Busselton, and appropriate training for staff using this equipment, for the shire to conduct air quality monitoring as a result of complaints from the community about odours. The shire will provide the results of this monitoring to the Department of Health for assessment.
