501. Hon KATE DOUST to the Minister for Education:
(1) Does the
Department of Education currently have a principal consultant on environmental
services; and, if so, what responsibilities, duties/tasks does that person
carry out?
(2) If no to (1) —
(a) is the
position vacant; and, if so, how long has it been vacant and what efforts have
been made to fill the position;
(b) has the position been made
redundant; and, if so, when was it made redundant; and
(c) who now undertakes the duties
associated with the position?

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this
question.
(1) Yes. The
principal consultant, environmental services is responsible for ensuring the
effective coordination of all environmental services across the department,
including the provision of high-level strategic advice and information and
support on the best practice in grounds and hygiene management and maintenance
in schools. This also includes managing the development and tendering of
contracts for hygiene and grounds maintenance services covering cleaning, lawn
mowing, sanitary hygiene and bulk waste removal, ensuring that these are
aligned to the needs of schools.
