(4) 3 APLOs spent a total of 25 days on patrol in a purely liaison role to assist police/community in incidents involving the local indigenous community. One APLO spent 3 days on a remote patrol with a sworn officer to an isolated Aboriginal Community. (5) The Coolgardie APLO attended a total of 11 incidents assisting in a liaison role during May. (6) Of the 11 incidents attended two involved non-aboriginal persons: 1. Whilst on liaison duties came across a car fire and extinguished same. 2. Whilst at Station heard a disturbance out on the street and immediately mediated between parties. (7) Safety of APLO was not compromised in any of these incidents nor was it likely to be. (8 – 9) Kalgoorlie APLOs attended to 30 incidents in May 2003. 3 were domestic related disputes, 6 were disturbances and 21 others relate to minor incidents such as welfare and truancy checks. None of these incidents involved non-aboriginal people. (10) APLO safety was not compromised in any of these incidents. As with any situation responded to, the Police Service has a duty of care to its APLOs to ensure any potential risk to safety is removed or mitigated.
