WORKING WITH CHILDREN
CHECKS –– AUDITOR GENERAL'S REPORT
1344. Hon PETER COLLIER to the
Leader of the House representing the Minister for Community Services:
I refer to the Auditor General's
report titled ''Working with Children Checks—Follow-up''
tabled on Wednesday, 23 October 2019.
(1) Of the 52 applicants issued with a negative notice
within 200 days, how many were either charged or found guilty of a sex
offence for the period?
(2) What was the
nature of the charge or conviction against each individual?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question.
(1)–(2) Of
the 52 applicants issued with a negative notice within 200 days, 21 were either
charged with, or found guilty of, a sex offence.
Negative
notices prohibit a person from engaging in child-related work. All the 21
people met the threshold for a negative
notice to be issued as per the Working with Children (Criminal Record Checking)
Act 2004, as they posed an unacceptable risk to children.
