Pilbara Cities, funded under the Royalties for Regions program, encapsulates the State Government's vision that towns in the Pilbara region become modern centres that have all the services and facilities enjoyed in other Australian cities. The Member should note that Pilbara Cities is not only focussed on the two major centres of the region but encompasses the total Pilbara region.
The State Government has specifically committed $300 million to the Pilbara Revitalisation Plan in the first stage of Pilbara Cities.
The State Government is also financing an additional $350 million for other social infrastructure projects across the region, including new schools in Karratha, a new hospital in South Hedland, upgrades to Nickol Bay hospital and the South Hedland Town Centre Revitalisation.
The State Government has also submitted a proposal to the Federal Government for $471 million through Infrastructure Australia to progress further initiatives for the Pilbara Cities Program.
Further initiatives under Pilbara Cities Program will be announced as part of the coming budgetary process.
