PORT — PRIVATISATION
750. Mr M. McGOWAN to the
Treasurer:
I refer to the Premier's comments this week that the
sale of the Fremantle port is ''probably unlikely in this term of
government''. Does the Treasurer still stand by the July 2016 completion
date for the sale of the port as was announced to the IPA conference just two
weeks ago?
Several members interjected.

Yes, it is the infrastructure project group; it is a
different group. So get some facts first!
We announced in the budget that the plan was to sell the port
of Fremantle, which includes, by the way, the inner harbour and the outer
harbour, and to get legislation into Parliament. The legislation would include
all the relevant issues, including those that members opposite have been
speculating wildly over in the public and elsewhere in an ill-informed manner,
and will be debated in this house. As indicated earlier, the intention is to
get that legislation into this house early next year. As the Premier made quite
clear in this house yesterday, the plan is that, subject to passing through
Parliament, which, of course, is the caveat on all issues that require
legislation, it is our expectation and intention to get the sale during this
term of government; in other words, what I committed to in the budget, what I
said at the conference and what I have said in public since then. We are
sticking to the plan that was announced in the budget this year.
