LOCAL GOVERNMENT COUNCILS, MONITORING AND INVESTIGATION 852. Hon B.K. DONALDSON to the Minister for Local Government and Regional Development: I refer the minister to question 734, which I asked on 8 November, about the monitoring and investigation branch of the Department of Local Government, which he indicated he would discuss with the chief executive officer and provide a more informed answer. Given that the manager and senior investigator have both left the department and another investigator is fully committed to the ongoing South Perth inquiry, there are now no other investigation officers or suitably experienced officers left to carry out inquiries under part 8, division 1 of the Local Government Act 1995. (1) Is the minister dispensing with the monitoring and investigation of local government councils where necessary by the department? (2) If not, when will the minister inform the House of his and the Government’s position on future monitoring and investigation of local government councils? Hon TOM STEPHENS
