GAS TO LIQUIDS FOUNDATION PLANT - ESTABLISHMENT
I have given notice of the question. I refer to a submission by Sasol Chevron, “Inquiry into Australia’s future oil supply and alternative transport”, dated 22 February 2006, in which is outlined its strategy to establish several gas to liquids foundation plants in three or four advantageous locations throughout the world with its focus, including Australia. Given that the establishment of a gas to liquids plant could involve an investment of up to $20 billion, produce up to 200 000 barrels of diesel per day and generate up to $8 billion of revenue a year - (1) Has the government held discussions with any potential gas to liquids investors regarding the establishment of an industry in Western Australia; and if so, with whom? (2) What, if any, incentives has the government proposed to potential gas to liquids investors to secure the establishment of such an industry for Western Australia? Hon LJILJANNA RAVLICH
