MEMBER FOR VASSE — ROAD TRAFFIC INCIDENT
297. Mr B.S. WYATT to the
Premier:
I have a supplementary question. The
Premier said that there is an obligation on ministers to disclose when a
government vehicle has been damaged. What is the time frame within which a
minister should do that?

I think anyone with a government
vehicle, if there is damage to that vehicle in whatever circumstances, should
make that known to their employer and obviously then to RiskCover. In the case
of members of Parliament, that process would normally go through the Department
of the Premier and Cabinet. I simply make the point that some media and members
opposite have suggested there was some sort of cover-up and that things were
concealed. The vehicle in question had to be returned to the government garage;
the damage would have been identified and the process would have followed the
normal course. Indeed, some of the accusations made, particularly by the Leader
of the Opposition, have been false.
