ROAD SAFETY
569. Hon MARTIN ALDRIDGE to the minister representing the
Minister for Road Safety:
This week is National Road Safety
Week. I refer to the minister's comments on ABC radio on 15 May
regarding the importance of people receiving hospital treatment within the ''golden
hour''.
(1) Noting that
WA research has found direct retrieval via rescue helicopter improves survival
rates, will the minister establish a rescue helicopter in the midwest to ensure
more regional residents receive treatment within the ''golden hour''?
(2) If no to (1), why not?
(3) When will the
minister's office respond to a briefing request regarding the road
safety camera strategy, which was requested some six months ago, on 14 November
2022?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. The following information has been provided to me
by the Minister for Road Safety.
(1)–(2) The Road Safety Commission advise that a retrieval
helicopter is the responsibility of the WA Country Health Service, which
provides this service outside of the metropolitan area. The honourable member
should refer this question to the Minister for Health.
Hon Martin
Aldridge : That is wrong.
Hon STEPHEN
DAWSON : I am reading the answer that has been provided.
Hon Martin Aldridge interjected.
The PRESIDENT :
Order!
Hon STEPHEN
DAWSON : Do you want the answer or not?
Hon Martin
Aldridge : Well, you'll be correcting it next week.
Hon STEPHEN
DAWSON : Put it on notice.
