I refer to Questions on Notice No. 1237 of 2001 and No. 587 of 2006 regarding assaults by students, parents and others on teachers in Western Australian Government schools and I ask -
(1) Is it the case that central data collection on assaults on teachers began on 24 July 1998?
(2) If yes to (1), why did Question on Notice No. 597 of 2006 state that the Department of Education and Training does not collect data on the perpetrators of assault?
(3) If yes to (1), how many teachers in Western Australian Government schools were assaulted by -
(a) students; and
(b) parents
in 2001, 2002, 2003, 2004, 2005 and so far in 2006?
(4) How many of these teachers required medical attention as a result of the assaults?
(5) How many of these teachers required stress leave as a result of the assaults and for how long?
(6) In how many cases were charges laid?
