(1) Does the minister agree with the Premier’s statement that the 12-year-old boy killed in Monday’s high-speed vehicle collision should have been at school? (2) Can the minister confirm that on the day of the collision the school the dead boy had attended was having a pupil-free day? (3) In the light of the Premier’s insistence that children should be at school, will the minister now take steps to ensure that on designated school days schoolchildren will be in the care and custody of teachers? (4) To achieve this, will the minister ensure that the professional development of teachers is undertaken after school hours or during teachers’ 10 weeks of annual leave? Hon GRAHAM GIFFARD

(3)-(4) Negotiations to develop a new certified agreement with the Australian Education Union are currently being held. Pupil-free days and the time at which teacher professional development occurs are being discussed as part of the negotiations for a replacement certified agreement for teachers and school administrators.
