❓ Hon Paul Llewellyn questions the Minister for Health about cost savings of an alternative site (golf/Shire) for a health facility, given a report indicating favourable building conditions. The Minister responds that the government supports the Shire's chosen site (Community Park) and therefore hasn't pursued cost estimates for the alternative.

I refer to question on notice number 3230 of 14 March 2006 and the alternative golf/Shire site. The Minister has been supplied with a report by an engineer that the oils at the alternative golf/Shire site are Class A, meaning very favourable for building. In addition the report indicated that there would be substantial cost savings and no risk of cracking in slabs and masonry, which could be expected in future on the community park site -
(1) Will the Minister have an estimate made of the cost savings of using the golf/Shire site?
(2) If not, why not?
(3) Given that the cost of extending sewerage would have to be added to the cost of using the golf/Shire site, has the Department ever obtained an estimate of -
(a) the cost of sewer extension; and
(b) the share of the cost that could be covered by others, including the Education Department, Shire offices, country club and housing?
(4) If no to (3), why not?

(2) The Denmark Shire Council chose the Community Park site in 2004 and has re?affirmed its choice on numerous occasions since then. The State Government has supported the Council's decision and there is no reason for the government to spend any funds reviewing any other site. (3) (a) An initial estimate of the cost of extending the sewer to the Golf Club site was obtained. (b) It was not determined whether any other party would be prepared to contribute to the sewer extension at the Golf Club site or what such contribution might be because the Shire Council chose the Community Park site for the new health and aged care facility. (4) Not applicable.
