The Minister Replied:
(1) Ogden International Facilities Corporation Pty Ltd, the largest and most experienced venue management company in the Asia Pacific region, will be appointed as venue manager through a Special Purpose Vehicle. The in-house management team will include marketing specialists dedicated specifically to marketing the Perth Convention and Exhibition Centre exclusively.
(2) Yes.
(3) Ogden IFC is also contracted by the Queensland Government as managers of the Cairns Convention Centre, and is a minority 24.72% shareholder in Convex (QLD) Pty Ltd, the company contracted by the Queensland Government to manage the Brisbane Convention and Exhibition Centre. In this instance, Ogden IFC is not directly involved in the day to day marketing of this complex. Ogden IFC (Perth) is already under contract to the State Government through the Perth Theatre Trust for the management of the Perth Theatre Trust venues, and has been successfully working with the Perth Convention Bureau for some time in attracting meeting and convention business to the State?s theatres.
(4) No.
(5) The destination is the issue for International or National Associations, not the convention centre alone. Perth cannot compete with Brisbane or Cairns or anywhere else without a dedicated convention centre. But once the PCEC is built we will become a competitive MICE destination.
