YOUTH MENTAL HEALTH UNITS
1220. Hon WILSON TUCKER to the Leader of the House
representing the Minister for Health:
I refer to the youth mental health
inpatient services provided through the metropolitan health services, such as
the East Metropolitan Youth Unit and the Mental Health Youth Unit located at
Fiona Stanley Hospital.
(1) Do these units receive patients
who are currently prisoners, either sentenced or on remand?
(2) As youth
mental health units accept patients in an age range of 16 to 24 years, are
adults and children segregated from each other; and, if so, how?
(3) Are these units segregated by
gender; and, if so, how?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question.
(1) Youth Mental
Health Units provided at the East Metropolitan Health Service and South
Metropolitan Health Service receive patients from Banksia Hill Detention Centre
and those on hospital orders.
(2) All health service providers comply with the
Mental Health Act 2014, section 303, ''Segregation of children from adult inpatients''.
(3) All health service providers follow the sexual
safety guidelines provided by the Office of the Chief Psychiatrist.
