“WA MENTAL HEALTH TOWARDS 2020: CONSULTATION PAPER”
I refer to question without notice 755 in which the parliamentary secretary said — The final WA mental health policy and plan that will outline the state government’s policy for mental health and provide a blueprint for mental health priorities and reform in WA over the next decade is planned for release at the end of 2010. (1) What date prior to the end of 2010 is the final WA mental health policy and plan scheduled for release? (2) If there is not a scheduled release date in the remainder of this year, when will the final WA mental health policy and plan be released? (3) If there is no scheduled release date for the final WA mental health policy and plan what is causing the delay? Hon HELEN MORTON

I thank the honourable member for some notice of the question. The information provided by the minister is — (1) It will not be released prior to the end of 2010. (2) It will be released in the early months of 2011. (3) The Mental Health Commission has received extensive high-level feedback on the consultation paper, and this is still being analysed and considered in developing the policy and plan. A summary report on this feedback will be released by the end of 2010. The feedback shows areas of agreement and also identifies gaps and indicates the need for an overarching and more strategic whole-of-government approach. The new Mental Health Commissioner and senior staff are taking time to understand the sector’s needs and meeting with key stakeholders.
