I refer the Minister to the Weekend West
newspaper article of 13 April 2019 ‘WA faces tougher gun licence laws’, and ask: (a) On what date did the Minister ask the Police
Commissioner for advice on the overhaul of NSW’s firearms legislation; (b) Will the Office of the Police Commissioner be
conducting this enquiry; (c) Has the Minister indicated to the Commissioner a
time frame for this advice; (d) What stakeholders will WA Police be engaging in both
NSW and WA to compile this advice; and (e) Does the Minister intend to table this advice in
Parliament?

The Western Australian Police Force advise:
(a)        13 April 2019.
(b)        This matter was referred to the Licencing Enforcement Division who provided advice via the responsible Deputy Commissioner.
(c)        This advice was provided to the office of the Minister for Police on 24 April 2019.
(d)       The WA Police Force contacted the New South Wales Police Firearm Registry and Police Media Liaison Unit.
(e)        The NSW Firearms Registry Manager advised that there is no impending change to legislation in relation to mental health or family law court considerations to firearms licensing matters in that state.
