The Board and the Government have accepted the Committee's findings and recommendations and are currently working on the implementation of the recommendations. Western Power advises that: 1) Western Power has two Diesel fired Gas Turbines (GT) situated in the Goldfields region totalling 55MW (35MW + 20MW). 2) The 20MW GT was unavailable, however, was not required given the load reduction brought about by the emergency restriction order. 3) System Operations attempted to start the 20MW GT on the morning of Wednesday 18 February, however, there was a power supply failure in the control system and it was unable to be utilised. GT personnel tried to utilise the local staff in Kalgoorlie at the time to fix the problem, however it became apparent that this was beyond their technical capability. Personnel from the GT section were dispatched to Kalgoorlie and the turbine was available the following day.
