MARGARET RIVER
AND NANNUP FIRES — POST-INCIDENT ANALYSIS
474. Ms M.M. QUIRK to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. Given that the Premier told
ABC radio today that the report was of little consequence, why is he taking
such elaborate measures to bury it?

AnswerView source ↗

I have not read the report, but it is a technical report into
the management of the fire—that is what it is about. It has been looked
at by those agencies that share responsibility for dealing with such an
emergency situation. The broader issues were contained in the bigger report
which, of course, was the Keelty report. We produced that and made it public
very quickly. We acted upon it and accepted the Keelty recommendations. Bear in
mind, some changes are taking place. This state is about to get a fire chief in
charge of fire services in this state with the same powers as those of the
police commissioner. Those reforms, which are long overdue, are taking place.
When the various agencies have dealt with that —
Ms
M.M. Quirk : You don't intend to table it.
The
SPEAKER : Order, member for Girrawheen!
Mr C.J. BARNETT :
There is no point, Mr Speaker.
