World Health Organization—Resolution WHA77.17
442. Hon Philip Scott to
the parliamentary secretary representing the Minister
for Health:
I draw the
minister's attention to the World Health Organization (WHO) resolution WHA77.17
of 1 June 2024, through which the 77th World Health Assembly adopted amendments
to the International Health Regulations (IHR).
(1) Can the minister explain to the house what
these amendments to the IHR mean for Western Australia's health policy?
(2) Can the minister provide the house with any
Commonwealth briefings the government has received about the IHR amendments?
(3) The date of 19 July 2025 is the latest date
for a state party to reject the IHR amendments. Given the WHO's mishandling of
the COVID pandemic, has the WA government made representations to the
Commonwealth that Australia should reject the IHR amendments and if not, why
not?
(4) Given the current
crisis of health system mismanagement in Western Australia, does the minister
have full confidence in the Western Australian Government's ability to
adjust its legislative and administrative arrangements, as required by the IHR
amendments entering into force on 19 September 2025?
