OUR PRIORITIES — TARGETS
531. Mr D.T. REDMAN to the Premier:
I
refer to the Premier's announcement on 20 February this year that he
will create 150 000 new jobs within five years , and to page 1 of The
West Australian on the same day, which reads —
Mr McGowan will also commit to
launching a website that will track his Government's performance
against the jobs target.
(1) Has the jobs tracker been established; and, if
yes, why is it not visible on the Our Priorities website as promised?
(2) Has the
Premier followed through on his promise to hold ministers and senior public
servants to measurable targets; and, if yes, will he today table the results
thus far?

(1)–(2) Earlier
this year, we launched the Our Priorities plan so that a range of issues that
have confronted Western Australia over a long time would be a focus of the
government and, hopefully, successive governments into the future. One of the
targets we launched was that, from the time of the election of this government
to 2022–23 or thereabouts, we hoped to create 150 000 jobs across Western
Australia, including 30 000 in regional Western Australia. Since we have been
elected, 40 000 jobs have been created. In terms of the aspects of the website,
I will attempt to provide further details in the future, but that is what is
behind this. Certain issues have confronted the state for a long time. If
members look at the issues that we selected, they will see that we have
employed people within the Department of the Premier and Cabinet to coordinate
efforts across government to try to deal with some of these longstanding
issues, whether it is Aboriginal incarceration, the early years performance of
students, employment, getting the state back into a strong surplus position and
dealing with waste—a whole range of initiatives like that. In terms of
the actual aspects of a website, I will attempt to provide details at a later
stage of today, this week or perhaps at the next sitting.
