DEPARTMENT
OF MINES AND PETROLEUM — MINE SITE FATALITIES
429. Mr W.J. JOHNSTON to the
Minister for Mines and Petroleum:
I ask a supplementary question. If it is the ministerXXX ###XXXs number one priority, why does he not
think it is a significant issue affecting the Department of Mines and
Petroleum? He is happy to talk about the profitability of miners and investment
in the industry, but why does he not consider a significance issue to be the
number of mine deaths in this state?

That is a stupid supplementary question. Obviously, we
consider it. We have the statistics. Just because it is not in the budget
papers that does not mean it —
Mr W.J. Johnston :
It is not a priority.
Mr W.R. MARMION :
That is in the member for CanningtonXXX ###XXXs
opinion. Just because he does not see a figure in a document, he thinks that it
is not a priority. The member for Cannington is not always right.
