HILTON HOTEL — KARRATHA
681. Hon HELEN BULLOCK to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Minister for Lands:
I refer to the Minister for Lands' announcement on 27
June 2012 that a Hilton hotel will be constructed in Karratha.
(1) Has a site
been identified for the hotel?
(2) Who currently
owns this site?
(3) Has approval
been given by the local shire for a hotel on this site?
(4) Was any due
diligence carried out by the minister before making this announcement?

I thank the member for some notice
of the question. I provide the following response on behalf of the
parliamentary secretary representing the Minister for Lands.
(1) Yes.
(2) The site is privately owned.
(3) This is a question that should be directed to the Shire
of Roebourne.
(4) While the
government, through the Pilbara Cities office of the Department of Regional
Development and Lands, has been, and continues to be, supportive of the
proposal, the decision to build a Hilton hotel in Karratha was taken by the
Hilton hotel company in conjunction with private investors.
