FOSTER CHILDREN — GUARDIANSHIP LEGISLATION
I refer to the Premier’s Statement yesterday, reprinted as a media statement on the Premier’s website, in which he stated — the Liberal-National government has … introduced guardianship legislation to provide foster children with stable placements. While I commend efforts to provide stability for foster children and to recognise the great role carried out by foster carers, will the minister to confirm that, in fact, no such legislation has been introduced to either house, and will she advise the house whether that form of words in the Premier’s Statement was approved by her or her office? Hon ROBYN McSWEENEY

I thank the honourable member for the question. The Children and Community Services Act 2004 will be changed to allow guardianship to be introduced. Some changes have already been drafted, but the legislation has not yet been introduced. That should answer the honourable member’s question.
