ATTORNEY GENERAL — GIFTS AND TRAVEL —
HELICOPTER FLIGHT
575. Ms M.J. DAVIES to the Premier:
I
have a supplementary question. Will the Premier undertake—from his
answer, I take it that he has not—to conduct a proper review of
the circumstances of the Attorney General's helicopter flight, given
the level of public interest in this matter?

This is just muckraking by the
Nationals WA and the Liberal Party. As I said to the Leader of the Opposition
yesterday, when the coalition was in office, the then Leader of the National
Party flew around in a helicopter with Clive Palmer, the bloke who has tried to
take us for $30 billion, the bloke who gave the National Party $260 000 in
donations, and the guy who spent $60 million getting the Liberal Party elected
at the last federal election. You flew around in a helicopter with him—your
leader.
Ms M.J. Davies : I did not.
Mr M. McGOWAN : Your leader
flew around in a helicopter with Clive Palmer whilst he was promoting a project
that he sued the state government for $30 billion over. Fortunately, we
defeated him. It is not the same as someone going
to a birthday party with a friend. I mean, honestly, the opposition is
expending all this effort on someone going to a birthday party with a friend!
Has the Leader of the Opposition ever been to a birthday party with a friend?
Mr V.A. Catania : That's
not the issue.
Mr M. McGOWAN : That is
exactly the issue. Someone going to a birthday party with a friend seems to be
the biggest issue that the National Party is pursuing here. Someone went to a birthday
party with a friend. Yesterday the Leader of the Liberal Party said, ''It
would have been all right if it was in a car.'' It is okay to go with a friend
in a car to a birthday party. I do not know about a boat; I do not know whether
that is okay. I do not know whether it is
okay on a motorbike. It seems that the mode of transport is the issue. I have
read that some people tried to equate it
with Bronwyn Bishop using taxpayers' money to go to a Liberal Party
fundraiser. It is not the same. Everyone with a brain would understand
that. At the same time, members opposite are out there with their friends in ''The
Clan'' and all of their nefarious
carry-on, which we will no doubt get into further later on, and all their
branch stacking and inappropriateness.
That is all okay, according to the Liberal Party. Somehow, in the twisted minds
of the opposition , it is wrong for someone to go to a birthday party
with a friend. I mean, seriously, I think the opposition needs to get with the
program.
