241. Hon SUE ELLERY to the Minister for Education:
I refer to the primary extension and
challenge program.
(1) How many students participated
in the program in the following years —
(a) 2012;
(b) 2013;
(c) 2014; and
(d) how many are enrolled in 2015 to
date?
(2) For each of
those years, what is that number as a percentage of the enrolled primary school
students in the eligible class years?

I thank the member for some notice
of this question.
(1)–(2) Each
eligible student may engage in up to three primary extension and challenge
program courses per year and participation is voluntary. As PEAC programs are
coordinated by Education Regional Offices, the following provides the number of
students who were identified for participation —
(a) In 2012, 2 100
or 3.6 per cent of years 5, 6 and 7 students were identified for participation in
PEAC.
(b) In 2013, 2 550
or 4.4 per cent of years 5, 6 and 7 students were identified for participation
in PEAC.
(c) In 2014, 2 615
or 4.4 per cent years 5, 6 and 7 students were identified for participation in
PEAC.
(d) To date in
2015, 1 905 or 4.5 per cent of years 5 and 6 students have been identified for
participation in PEAC.
