Power's minimum specifications are in accordance with the relevant
Australian and international standards of the day. Western Power continually
reviews and adopts new relevant standards as appropriate. The minimum
specifications for new wood power poles in Western Australia are defined by the
following Australian and international standards: AS 1604.1—specification
for preservative treatment, sawn and round timber; AS 1720.1—timber
structures, part 1: design methods; AS 3818.1—timber, heavy structural
products, visually graded, part 1: general requirements; AS 3818.11—timber,
heavy structural products, visually graded, part 11: utility poles; AS/NZS 4063—timber
stress graded, in-grade strength and stiffness evaluation; AS/NZS 4676—structural
design requirements for utility services poles; AS 4707—chain of
custody for certified wood and forest products; AS 4708—Australian
forestry standard; and ISO 15206—timber poles, test methods,
determination of structural properties.
