I refer to the Mental Health Emergency Response Line (MHERL), and I ask —
(1) How many calls made to the MHERL in 2011-12 were referred directly through to Western Australia police?
(2) For calls made to the MHERL in 2011-12, how many callers were advised that MERHL was unable to assist and that they should themselves contact the Western Australia Police?

(1) In 2011/2012 MHERL received a total of 19,896 calls from the public and 1211 of these were referred to the Police for action (6.1% of the total number of calls).
(2) For the 2011/2012 reporting period, 127 Triage actions were identified as referrals to Police and 625 Triage actions were identified as caller advised to call the Police.
It should be noted that Triage actions recorded will not necessarily align with the total number of calls as many persons are the subject of a number of calls. The MHERL standard operating procedures require that referrals are made to the Police in circumstances of immediate danger.
