JUSTICE — MAGISTRATE TRAINING
1515. Hon NICK GOIRAN to the parliamentary secretary
representing the Attorney General:
I refer to the training of
practitioners appointed to serve as magistrates in our state. Does the Department
of Justice have any role directly or indirectly in facilitating or funding such
training?

I thank the honourable member for
some notice of the question. I answer on behalf of the parliamentary secretary
representing the Attorney General. The following response has been provided by
the Attorney General. The Department of
Justice assists heads of jurisdiction in facilitating access to judicial
training for all judicial officers as required. Funding is allocated
annually for judicial education across all courts and tribunals in Western Australia.
It should be noted that the department has no role in deciding what training is
or is not provided as that is a matter for the head of each jurisdiction.
