(2) Senior Department for Planning and Infrastructure (DPI) officers together with an engineering consultant inspected the amenities building and other buildings and structures within the port over the period 29-31 July 2003. This inspection was part of a planned review of maintenance progress at the port and to update port needs, maintenance priorities, work plans and funding requirements. Although the replacement of the jetty amenities building is agreed to be the next major maintenance priority for the port, the building is not considered to be at any current risk of collapse into Cambridge Gulf. A small area of timber decking adjacent to the amenities building was identified as being in need of urgent temporary repair pending the building replacement and I have been advised that the those repairs have now been completed by the port workforce. Therefore, the area is currently considered safe and serviceable. Liaison is currently taking place with Ord River District Cooperative representatives to determine the requirements for the replacement building so as to determine the level of funding required for the project to proceed. However, the amenities building and some plant will need to be considered, as part of a business case, for replacement in the near future. This will occur as part of the renegotiation of the Port Operating Agreement with the Ord River District Co-operative in July 2004. It should be remembered that the Ord River District Co-operative is responsible for maintaining the facilities subject to fair wear and tear. DPI is only responsible for capital replacement works.
