I refer to the Swan River Trust’s monitoring of Clontarf Bay, adjacent to the old Centenary Park landfill site, and more specifically the five week testing regime, that was due to commence on September 2010, and ask -
(1) Were any of the existing bores at the site operational during the five week testing regime?
(2) Were any of the existing bores at the site used in the five week testing regime?
(3) Will the Minister please table the location of the bores used during this testing?
(4) Will the Minister please table the results of the tests?

(1-2) No
(3) No. I am advised that in lieu of access to appropriate functioning groundwater bores at the old Centenary Park landfill site, the Department of Water, on behalf of the Swan River Trust, undertook sampling of the sediment and surface water in the Canning Estuary in Clontarf Bay in late 2010. I understand this sampling was in response to concerns raised by a member of the public regarding the potential leaching of contaminants into the river at that location. I am advised that the Swan River Trust has provided these results directly to the concerned member of the public
(4) [see tabled paper no] for summary report titled
'Clontarf Bay contaminants investigation'
dated 10 December 2010.
