BIODIVERSITY, CONSERVATION AND ATTRACTIONS —LEEUWIN–NATURALISTE
NATIONAL PARK
1222. Hon LOUISE KINGSTON to the parliamentary secretary representing the
Minister for Environment:
I thank the minister for the answer
to question without notice 1198 regarding the six-point plan titled ''A
Recovery Plan for Boranup Forest & the Leeuwin Naturaliste National Park''.
(1) How many
parks and wildlife ranger full-time equivalents are budgeted for by the
department to service the Leeuwin–Naturaliste National Park?
(2) Are any of
these positions currently vacant?
(3) Does the minister believe that the number of FTEs
referred to in (1) is sufficient to service the national park?

AnswerView source ↗

I thank the member for some notice
of the question. I congratulate the member on the occasion of her inaugural
speech earlier today. On behalf of the Minister for Environment, I provide the
following answer.
(1) It is five
full-time employees.
(2) One ranger
position is currently vacant due to a staff member being on leave. The
Department of Biodiversity, Conservation and
Attractions is aiming to fill this position for the duration of the leave
period.
(3) The
management and allocation of all DBCA staff resources requires prioritisation
to deliver identified strategic outcomes. Within the Leeuwin–Naturaliste
National Park, existing staff resources are allocated to achieve priority
on-ground deliverables, which include visitor safety, servicing and maintenance
of visitor infrastructure, and public education and compliance to support
tourism and conservation management outcomes.
