SIGNS OF SAFETY PROGRAM — TERRY MURPHY
180. Hon STEPHEN DAWSON to the
Minister for Child Protection:
I refer to the draft running program for the Seventh
International Signs of Safety Gathering in April 2014 that listed Mr Terry
Murphy as director of Resolutions Consultancy and as a guest speaker.
(1) Was the
minister aware of the draft program?
(2) Can the
minister clarify whether the CEO of the Department for Child Protection and
Family Support holds any directorships or any interest, financial or otherwise,
in any private company or business?
(3) Can the
minister confirm that Resolutions Consultancy is the owner of the Signs of
Safety program implemented throughout the Department for Child Protection and
Family Support?

I thank the
member for some notice of the question.
(1) No. I am
aware of the Seventh International Signs of Safety Gathering to be held in
England in April 2014 and understand Mr Murphy will be speaking at the event.
(2) I am
advised by the CEO of the Department for Child Protection and Family Support
that he does not hold any directorships or any interest, financial or
otherwise, in any private company or business.
(3) The Signs of
Safety program has been implemented in the Department for Child Protection and
Family Support and has been in the public domain for a number of years.
Resolutions Consultancy registered the trademark Signs of Safety in 2012. This
has had no effect on the department's use of the program. The effect of
the trademark is that only persons authorised by Resolutions Consultancy can
provide training and consultancy services for commercial gain under the name
Signs of Safety.
