GRIFFIN
COAL — LIQUIDATOR
1346. Hon Dr STEVE THOMAS to the minister representing the
Minister for State and Industry Development, Jobs and Trade:
I refer to my question without
notice 1241 of 17 October 2023 on the responsibility for rehabilitation costs
associated with the previous and current operations of the insolvent Griffin
Coal.
(1) Does the
minister agree with the former member for Collie and partner in Pumped Hydro
Collie, Mick Murray, when he said on ABC radio on 26 October '' taxpayers
are on the hook for about $400 million if this project doesn't go
ahead, because the Govt will need to rehabilitate the mine site; Griffin Coal
don't have the money to rehabilitate''?
(2) If no to (1),
who is responsible for the rehabilitation?
(3) Is the $400 million
figure accurate or underestimated?
(4) Has the government been provided any advice on
projected costs associated with the rehabilitation of the Griffin
operation by any of the myriad consultants and advisers engaged by the
government in the last 18 months?
(5) If yes to
(4), when was the advice given, what were the projected costs and will the
government table the advice to the house; and, if not, why not?
