PLANNING IMPROVEMENT SCHEMES
As the Western Australia Planning Commission has identified Canning Bridge as a significant site because it is within a transport-oriented development area, when will the government tell people living in the western suburbs who are living within one kilometre of train stations that their suburbs—namely, Mosman Park, Claremont Peppermint Grove, Cottesloe and Nedlands—could also have 20 to 30-storey residential commercial developments in their areas? The SPEAKER : The opportunity to ask a supplementary question is not always given. I have given the member the opportunity to ask a brief supplementary, and I ask the minister to respond now. Mr J.H.D. DAY

The member for Alfred Cove is frightening the member for Cottesloe and the member for Nedlands. Please, we have enough issues in the planning portfolio without the member stirring up more issues! Planning studies are going on in relation to further growth across the metropolitan area. There are opportunities for urban infill development, including, believe it or not, along the Fremantle to Perth railway line. Dr J.M. Woollard : Twenty to 30 storeys—you should be ashamed of yourself. The SPEAKER : Order! Mr J.H.D. DAY : Many people in the western suburbs and the immediate southern suburbs are very well aware of the need to provide affordable housing in Western Australia and will understand the approach that this government has taken.
