Water supply—Bullsbrook
266. Hon Julie Freeman to the Leader of the House representing the Minister
for Water:
I refer to water
supply issues in Bullsbrook.
(1) Regarding roadworks on Great Northem Highway
that will see the construction of a roundabout at the Rutland Road
intersection, is it the case that potable water is or was being used in the
roundabout construction works?
(2) With respect to the decision to stop
additional draw on the Bullsbrook high level water zone standpipe on 21 January
2025 and to allow just one water carrier to extract from the Bullsbrook mains,
why has preferential treatment been extended to one water carrier and not
others?
(3) How long will the ongoing standpipe
restrictions between November and May remain in place?
(4) Will the town of Bullsbrook be linked to the
Alkimos seawater desalination plant when it is operational; and, if yes, when
is this likely to occur?

I thank the
honourable member for some notice of the question. I provide this answer on
behalf of the Minister for Water.
(1) Water Corporation advises that construction
companies have various options as to where they can source water for their
works and is not aware of the particular arrangements referenced.
(2) Water Corporation put in a restriction to
access water from the Bullsbrook high level water zone to licensed standpipe
users. The company the honourable member refers to has a commercial-size
metered service, which is a different arrangement to a temporary mobile
standpipe licence and is permanent water infrastructure.
(3) The restriction was lifted at midnight on 30
April 2025.
(4) Bullsbrook is connected to the integrated
water supply scheme. Alkimos seawater desalination plant (ASDP) will be
integrated into this scheme; however, there will not be a direct link between
Alkimos SDP and Bullsbrook.
