NATIONAL DROUGHT SUMMIT
988. Ms M.J. DAVIES to the Premier:
I have a supplementary question. I understand
that the Premier believes that the state is doing what it can, but how much
longer do pastoralists, specifically in the southern rangelands, whose stock
are dying in droves, have to wait until the state fulfils its responsibilities
to animal welfare?

As I said to the Leader of the
Nationals WA before, pastoralists concerned about whether they have sufficient
feed to ensure their animals' welfare should contact DPIRD's
dry season response group to receive assistance, support and advice. I do not know for how long the
government will continue feeding people's cattle using taxpayers'
funds and whether it is a sustainable long-term solution.
