I refer to the recent development and refurbishment of the golf course on Rottnest Island: (a) was Section 18 approval under the Aboriginal Heritage Act 1972 granted by the Minister on any of the Registered Aboriginal Sites on the golf course prior to the development; (b) if yes to (a), please list the Registered Aboriginal Sites and on what date Section 18 approval was granted; (c) what were the conditions placed on these applications; (d) what were the conditions placed on these applications; (e) was there any consultation with the relevant traditional owners or native title representative body in relation to these registered sites; and (f) has Mt Hershall been removed from the Aboriginal Sites Register, and if so why?

(a) Yes.
(b) DAA 3782 (Rottnest Island Golf Course); DAA 31746 (Golf Course South Site Glass Artefact Scatter) and DAA 31747 (Golf Course Northeast Site Glass Artefact Scatter). Consent was granted on 24 July 2012 for all the sites mentioned above.
(c) - (d) Three conditions were attached to the consent and are summarised below.
The Landowner is required to:
• undertake salvage of the artefacts prior to the project commencing;
• record and report any cultural material identified during the works; and
• at completion, provide a report to the Registrar of Aboriginal Sites.
(e) Yes. Consultation was undertaken with 31 representatives of the Whadjuk Group Native Title Claimants, Swan River 2 Native Title Claimants, Bodney Group, Independent Aboriginal Environmental Group, the Ballaruk Group, and the Bibulmun Group. There were no major issues or concerns raised regarding the proposed improvements to the golf course.
(f) No. The area of Mount Hershall on Rottnest Island is not and has never been a registered place on the Aboriginal Sites Register.
