POLICE —
CRIME RATES — INCREASE
8. Mrs M.H. ROBERTS to the Minister for
Police:
I have a supplementary question. If
Frontline 2020 has not failed, why is the minister doing such a massive
overhaul to the model she rolled out?

AnswerView source ↗

Once again, the member for Midland
has not paid attention to what the commissioner said about the change in the
way the model is working.
Mrs
M.H. Roberts interjected.
The
SPEAKER : Member for Midland!
Mrs
L.M. HARVEY : If the member for Midland listens for a minute, I will explain
it to her because the commissioner was very clear: he is redirecting the
efforts of the local policing teams towards the causes of volume crime.
Mrs
M.H. Roberts : It's called changing the model.
Mrs
L.M. HARVEY : No it is not; it is directing the effort.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Midland, member for West Swan and member for Armadale! I want a quick answer to
this; I want to move on.
Mrs
L.M. HARVEY : The commissioner has said that because of the Frontline 2020
model, he can now redeploy all of his resources more effectively to focus on
family and domestic violence, volume crime, home burglaries and motor vehicle
theft. Those are the key areas in which we are seeing the increases in crime
compared with those of last year. We will continue to focus that effort. The
member for Girrawheen interjected about detective vacancies.
Ms
M.M. Quirk : There are 47.
Mrs L.M. HARVEY :
Yes, I know.
Ms
M.M. Quirk interjected.
The SPEAKER : Member for
Girrawheen!
Mrs
L.M. HARVEY : There are 47 detective vacancies —
The
SPEAKER : Member for Girrawheen, I call you to order for the first time.
Minister, quickly.
Mrs
L.M. HARVEY : There are 47 detective vacancies because we created 50 new
positions. That is why there are vacancies and we are filling them from our Go
program.
Several members interjected.
The SPEAKER : That question is
finished.
