FIREARMS —
SPORTING SHOOTERS ASSOCIATION OF AUSTRALIA (WA) FLYERS
1175. Hon RICK MAZZA to the minister representing the
Minister for Police:
Over some considerable length of
time, the Sporting Shooters Association of Australia (WA) has made a number of
unsuccessful requests for permission to sponsor a safe storage of firearms
community message included in firearm licence renewal letters, similar to those
that are included in motor vehicle licence renewals, such as from the RAC.
Following a spate of opportunistic thefts of firearms, largely from rural
properties, the Western Australia Police Force has launched Operation Bluesun,
which targets the safe storage of firearms. Given the significant number of
police hours and resources being diverted to Operation Bluesun, can the
minister advise whether she will now give consideration to an amended community
message from the SSAA (WA)?
