NICHELIVING — STATE ADMINISTRATIVE TRIBUNAL APPEAL
AGREEMENT
729. Mr R.S. LOVE to the Premier:
I
have a supplementary question. What message does this send to the Western Australian
construction sector when a company like Nicheliving is let off the hook
with no financial penalty while other reputable builders get little support?

The falsehoods dripping from that
supplementary question require that whole question to be wrung out. Let us go
into it. No builder gets off scot-free. If they are deregistered, it is because
they either are becoming insolvent or are so disreputable that their
deregistration is warranted. In this case, Nicheliving was insolvent and was
unable to complete those homes, so the deregistration process took place. We
could have allowed that process to run its course. That is what the Leader of
the Opposition wanted; he wanted the whole thing to trickle on. If the Liberals
and Nationals were in government, they would have let this whole sorry saga
play out in the courts, not caring about the customers who have been waiting up
to four years to get their homes built. If the Liberals and Nationals were in
charge, we would simply see people sitting on their hands and waiting for the
lawyers to do their work. We did not take
that attitude. We took action and made sure that those people could get into
their homes much sooner . Those people have made a range of comments
about that, including one person who said, according to my notes —
''I
would like to express my sincere thanks for your recent update regarding our
home build with Nicheliving. The resolution reached by the Cook
Government brings much relief to my family and me. We are deeply grateful for the efforts made to ensure we can now
access our Home Indemnity Insurance and move forward with our build.
Thank
you once again to you and the Cook Government for prioritizing the interests of
homeowners like us.''
The Leader of the Opposition should
listen to those people and get his priorities right.
