In relation to the forthcoming Rugby World Cup matches that will be played in Perth, I ask - (1) What process is adopted for liquor outlets, such as hotels, seeking extended hours to cater for the needs of the large crowds that will attend these matches, particularly on Sundays? (2) Can the Western Australian Government provide a general exemption, as the New South Wales Government does, to grant extended hours for liquor outlets to cater for patrons who have attended special sporting, artistic or cultural events? (3) If yes to (2), why was this approach not taken for the Rugby World Cup matches in Perth? Hon NICK GRIFFITHS

I thank Hon Barry House for his question; he raises an important issue. (1) It is a matter of making an application to the liquor licensing authority, which is the Director of Liquor Licensing. (2) No. The Act does not so permit. (3) Not applicable.
