(a) There are 2 support service options for patients discharged from the Acute Psychiatric Unit:
1. Follow up by South West Community Mental Health Services.
2. Follow up by General Practitioner and relevant community based services providing psychosocial support programs.
(b) There is no known proposal for the development of specialised geriatric mental health beds within either the South West Acute Psychiatric Unit or the greater region. The Mental Health Services Plan currently being developed by the mental Health Commission and the Department of Health will address mental health inpatient requirements throughout the State and is expected to be completed by mid 2014.
