PODIATRIST POSITION — NEWMAN
I refer to the answer to question without notice 655, asked on 14 September 2010, regarding the appointment of a podiatrist in Newman. (1) Has the recruitment process been completed; and, if yes, when was the appointment finalised? (2) How often does the visiting podiatrist visit Newman and what is the waiting time for an appointment as at today’s date? (3) If no to (1), when will a podiatrist be appointed? Hon HELEN MORTON

I thank the honourable member for some notice of this question. The following information has been provided by the Minister for Health. (1) The recruitment to the regional podiatrist position for the WA Country Health Service Pilbara has been finalised and an offer of appointment has been made. It is expected that the successful applicant, who has been recruited from overseas, will commence within 12 weeks. A locum podiatrist is continuing to attend the Pilbara on a regular basis; that is, one week, or five days, every six weeks. (2) Once the podiatrist commences there will be monthly visits to Newman. There are currently no referrals from Newman, hence there is no waiting time for an appointment as at today’s date. (3) Not applicable.
